Two bottles of wine later, Emma May Slattery needed a nap mid-drive home

The last memory Emma May Slattery has after a night on the wine with her friend is getting in the car to drive home.

She was found slouched over in her car on Eastern Drive at 10.30pm when police spotted her vehicle parked on the side of the road with the door partially open on July 1.

The 29-year-old told police she drove from her friend’s house in Gatton and stopped to have a sleep.

It was after the duo had started drinking at 7pm and consumed two bottles of wine.

Police noted a distinct smell of alcohol on her breath and that Slattery appearing dazed, confused and was slurring her words.

She was taken to the Gatton police station where her she returned a blood alcohol concentration of 0.160.

Police prosecutor Narelle Lowe told the Gatton Magistrates Court Slattery’s last memory was getting into the car and leaving her friend’s house.

Slattery represented herself in court and said was very lucky “it wasn’t any worse”.

“I recognise I put a lot of people at risk,” she said.

Due to her high reading, Slattery was told my Magistrate Kay Ryan she would have “some issues” once she got her licence back.

“You’ll be subject to an interlock prevention,” Ms Ryan said.

“I do note the reading, it was quite significant.”

Ms Ryan noted Slattery had no similar offences in her history.

Slattery pleaded guilty to one charge of driving under the influence of liquor and was fined $1000 and disqualified from driving seven months.

No conviction was recorded.
