A man was almost three times the legal alcohol limit and driving on a rim when he twice crashed his car into fences after a big day of playing cricket.
Falakkumar Dineshbhai Patel was seen driving down Buaraba Street in Gatton on the rim of his sedan after it “went flat” at an intersection.
Patel initially denied being the driver of the car and told police a friend was driving but they had “run away”.
In the Gatton Magistrates Court on June 21, police prosecutor Narelle Lowe said the 29-year-old was heavily intoxicated at the time of the incident.
Police were called the grounds at 10pm on May 29, where they came across the car wedged against a premier post.
Patel made admissions to police on their second attempt to question him, saying he had attended Gatton football grounds to play cricket with friends.
“He consumed some alcohol and began driving to the store. When he reached the intersection, his tyre went flat causing him to drive into a fence,” Sergeant Lowe said.
“He’s reversed from the address and driven to another location where he drove into a post at the football grounds.”
A roadside breath test revealed he had a blood alcohol recording of 0.149, just .01 below the high-level range.
Patel represented himself in court and told Magistrate Graham Lee he could get to his employment as a vegetable packer without his licence.
“Had it been 0.15, you would have been deemed to be under the influence (of liquor), which is far more serious,” Mr Lee said.
“It’s a quite high reading.”
Patel pleaded guilty to one charge of driving a motor vehicle over the middle alcohol limit.
He was fined $750 and disqualified from driving for six months.
