Andrew Rex Stewart charged with raping woman at Lockyer Valley Recreation Complex

The man has been held on remand as police allege he raped a young woman after approaching her in the early hours of Sunday morning.

Andrew Rex Stewart has been held on remand, charged with rape.

Police will allege that at about 3am an 18-year-old woman was walking towards the intersection of Patrick Street and Edward Street in Laidley when she was approached by Mr Stewart who was riding a scooter

Mr Stewart allegedly made inappropriate comments towards the woman, before she sought refuge in the backyard of a nearby property.

When she returned to the street a short time later it is alleged the man approached her again before physically assaulting her.

It is understood two male bystanders and a security guard rushed to the woman’s aid.

The woman was treated for injuries.

Police were called to the incident and arrested Mr Stewart a short time later.

His matter was briefly mentioned in the Toowoomba Magistrates Court on Monday where he was denied bail.

His case was adjourned to the Ipswich Magistrates Court where it was mentioned again today.
