LAST year Gail and Mike McMahon had no idea how many people would turn up to their community Christmas lunch but now their newly founded Christmas tradition is in demand.
The McMahons, from Plainland, started their Christmas luncheon last year for members of the community who couldn't be around family.
"We just wanted to cater for anyone that is alone on Christmas Day," Mrs McMahon said.
"We are on our own and celebrate Christmas on Boxing Day, and thought there might be others like us."
Mr McMahon said the support was overwhelming for the first time event.
"We are just a couple and have each other, but with family scattered around Australia," he said.
"We were just blown away by the businesses and the community last year."
Last year, 50 people attended the Christmas luncheon which was supported by volunteers and local organisations who provided catering.
"We've already had people ringing to see if it was on this year," Gail said.
This year the Christmas luncheon will be held at the Laidley Lutheran Church and bookings are required for catering purposes.
Mrs McMahon said they welcomed anyone who would like to assist setting up on December 24, and anyone who wanted to volunteer on Christmas Day.
"We welcome couples, families, anyone that is on their own on Christmas Day," she said.
Donations at the door are greatly appreciated so the event can continue in the future.
