Want to get out away to the country for a weekend but don’t want to camp the regular way?
A Lockyer Valley couple are about to launch a new “glamping experience”, which promises stunning views, a kingsize bed, hot water and a flushing toilet.
Lisa and Stephen Spierling are hoping to open Valhalla Glamping to the public soon, having spent more than three years developing and building the project.
The two sites sit on a property of more than 520 hectares at West Haldon, less than an hour southeast of Toowoomba.
The “tents”, which are based on permanent decks, generate their own power and feature a full kitchenette, along with a number of luxurious items and rustic furniture pieces.
There are also 9km of walking tracks, flower farming and a range of animals roaming the property.
Ms Spierling said she believed the views from the sites were some of the best in the Lockyer Valley.
“We had so many people say to us our property was beautiful and the view was stunning — we thought if we’d do (camping), let’s do the full luxury experience,” she said.
“We’ve had people who’ve lived in the Lockyer Valley all their lives so say they’ve not seen views like it.
“It’s like a hidden valley, it’s all tucked away.”
Ms Spierling said the tents had been almost-entirely furnished with revitalised pieces of old furniture, lending a rustic look to the glamorous experience.
“There’s been no expense spared, it’s the little things we’ve included and thought of like handmade toiletries,” she said.
“We’re invested in using locals — even the tents are a Queensland-based family’s products.
“The only things that are brand-new are the beds, mattresses and ottomans.
“It’s all rustic and beautiful old furniture (because) it’s all about reusing and recycling.”
While they aren’t taking bookings yet, Ms Spierling said the couple already had a huge amount of interest from people wanting to experience it.
