Laidley residents have described hearing a loud bang and seeing a flash of light before losing power overnight.
The incident caused quite a stir on social media as concerned residents raised questions over the source of the outage.
“We heard the massive bang at the sub station Cnr Vaux and Drayton (St),” one resident wrote.
“Driving past the Laidley Cultural Centre and saw a flash then lights everywhere went out,” another wrote.
It is understood the outage also affected nearby residents in Forest Hill, Summerholm and Granchester.
An Energex spokesman said the outage was caused by a fallen powerline on Lowe St, Laidley, which tripped power to 6154 homes and businesses.
The incident occurred just before 10pm on Thursday and saw some residents and businesses without power until 4am Friday.
“Power was progressively restored throughout the night with the final customers restored at 4.05am this morning,” the spokesman said.
The Energex spokesman said crews were unable to locate the cause of the wire down.
