Spring carnival-goers will have less attractions to attend with council cancelling “some aspects” of the 2021 Laidley Spring Festival.
Lockyer Valley Regional Council on Tuesday announced in a statement that continued coronavirus uncertainty had forced sections of the Laidley Spring Festival to be cancelled.
Mayor Tanya Milligan said the news was disappointing, but the decision was not made lightly.
“As we know only too well, the treat of Covid-19 to the community and subsequent restrictions and snap lockdowns are currently very real,” Cr Milligan said.
“So many of the individual aspects of the festival are led and delivered by community groups and volunteers and are held indoors, which means any restrictions in place at the time make it very difficult for event organisers.”
Cr Milligan said ongoing health risks and impacts to the community volunteers forced the decision to cancel sections of the carnival, reducing impacts of uncertainty surrounding possible snap lockdowns.
“We simply do not know what State Government Covid-19 restrictions will be in place in the coming weeks, which makes planning and delivering this event extremely difficult, and we understand the need for various event organisers to manage their finances wisely.
“We understand this will be difficult news for people to hear and we appreciate the understanding of all stakeholders, and our wider community,” Mayor Milligan said.
