Josh is ready for his next equestrian challenge

EQUESTRIAN: Josh Dingle is set to compete at the next Special Olympics qualifier this Sunday after winning numerous ribbons at the Riding for Disabled Nationals.

EQUESTRIAN: Josh Dingle is set to compete at the next Special Olympics qualifier at Currumbin on Sunday after winning numerous ribbons at the Riding for Disabled Nationals.

Josh made the journey to Melbourne and, competing on a billeted horse, won two dressage ribbons and a clear round ribbon in his maiden show jumping event.

It was the first time the Lockyer District High School student had competed at the RDA Nationals.

"I enjoyed learning new things … (and) had never show jumped before," Josh said.

"It was scary because you didn't know whether you were going to stay on or not."

Josh competed on his billeted horse Silver in the dressage and rode Jabba in the show jumping.

A regular competitor in dressage, Josh had the opportunity to ride in a working trial.

The class required him to negotiate small obstacles with his horse, including weaving and carrying objects.

"It was a lot more relaxing than everything else," he said.

Josh was one of four Queensland riding for disabled riders who competed in Melbourne after scoring results above 60% in the state competitions.

"It was a big adventure but it was worth all the effort and I had an absolute ball," Josh said.

If Josh rides well at the Special Olympics qualifier on Sunday, he could be returning to Melbourne for the Special Olympics next year.
