The Gatton Golf club’s new general manager has plans to revamp the club’s dining options and promote the venue as a community destination.

Former Maroochy River operations manager, Anthony Burke, has taken on the role as general manager at the Gatton Jubilee Golf Club.

Despite being in the role for less than a month, he has already organised the comeback of Friday night dinners and is preparing to launch seven-day lunches at the restaurant.

The golfer, who plays from a handicap of 17, also has plans to bring a younger demographic to the club with the possibility of mini golf and golf simulators in the pipelines.

“Golf clubs have always been a demographic of 60 years plus, and we are hoping to bring some of the 18 to 35 age groups back,” he said.

The plan involves creating a community hub vibe at the bistro, where local businesses and mums and bubs groups can use the restaurant area as a meeting space.

Friday night dinners will return with a theme each week, with the common favourites of roast, schnitzel or Thai night.

Former Sweet Treats owner Ben Kallinicos will run the kitchen, and members will soon have the option to name the restaurant.

Mr Burke said the club would operate on Friday nights, and look to build towards a Wednesday to Saturday model in the future.

Outdoor plans down the track include expanding golf operations and possibly introducing a mini golf course.

“The club has been through the normal COVID issues and with people not going out and the lack of tourists, numbers have been down,” Mr Burke said.

“Our focus is getting younger people here and providing another location for the community.

“We want a community hub, another option for people to come to. We did a wake during my first week here and it was really nice to be able to do that for the family.”

The Gatton Jubilee Golf Club currently has about 200 members.
