These cold nights provide the perfect excuse to try out Gatton’s newest Indian restaurant in the CBD.
Opening this week, Indian Tadka at Gatton has set up shop in the former RnB on North premises, with a menu packed full of culinary delights.
Niyamat Singh is the manager at the new restaurant and said the big menu was dominated by northern Indian dishes.
“We have a few southern curries too, but most of the menu is dominated by the north,” Niyamat said.
“India is very rich in food, you can have something different every day.”
Tadak, which means “tempering” is a process used for flavouring dishes - which is what Niyamat says guests can expect plenty of at the Gatton restaurant.
Meals will be cooked by chefs Chandon Singh and Anita Dutt, with Chandon having worked in restaurants across Australia for more than 30 years.
With two other stores in operation – one in Springfield, the other in Ipswich – Niyamat said the team wanted to expand into a regional location.
“We found that Gatton is a very nice and diverse place – there are people living here from across the world, not just India,” he said.
“This was the most suitable place, because there’s so many nearby destinations to explore.”
At 27, Niyamat is excited to take on the role as restaurant manager.
“It’s full of responsibilities, but I’m taking it as an opportunity and it’s very exciting for me,” he said.
“It’s a sense of new beginning. It’s a nice town, a regional location, the people are nice and there’s no traffic. I’m enjoying it.”
Niyamat isn’t concerned that there are already two pre-existing Indian restaurants in Gatton.
“A restaurant is a restaurant. It’s like having two Mexican restaurants in a town. We’re going to make very good food and deliver good service to take care of our customers,” he said.
“We are in the community serving food and if people like it they will come back.
Indian Tadka at Gatton is located at 45 North Street, Gatton and is open 11am to 8pm Tuesday to Friday, and 4pm to 8pm on weekends.
