Responsible dog owners get a pat on the head this year as a local council rolls out a good behaviour scheme.
Somerset Council has made a bold submission to dog owners, offering to pay the registration costs of owners who desex their pooches between June 1 and August 1 this year.
In addition, the council is cutting in half the rego costs for owners who already have desexed dogs and who pay within the discount period time frame.
The 50 per cent reduction in fees means residents will pay just $17.50 over the year for each dog.
Councillor Kylee Isidro said fee cuts were to further encourage responsible pet ownership.
“Customers will need to provide a signed vet certificate and a dog desexing promotion form by August 1 to take advantage of this great offer,” Cr Isidro said.
“Council resolved to keep the fees to the same as the 2019-2020 registration year to keep it affordable for our residents.
“And more than that, registering your dog helps council reunite you with your dog if it is found wandering.”
Desexing promotion forms are available on the council’s website.
