A $100,000 council-funded playground project is a huge hit with Toogoolawah kids

The upgraded equipment suits kids from one to 12 years, and honours contributions from the late Lester Williams.

A newly renovated Toogoolawah playground has already had an influx of kids wanting to test out new play equipment.

Children’s Park at Toogoolawah underwent a $100,000 facelift and was re-opened to the community on May 21.

The revamped playground was made more suitable for children between the ages of one and 12 following feedback from residents to the Somerset Regional Council.

Somerset Councillor Kylee Isidro welcomed the upgrade and said it was a great asset to the region.

“It’s a great park that offers plenty of variety for children of all ages and it’s complete with a shade structure,” Cr Isidro said.

“I took my two girls, Maddison and Maggie, and their friend Grace there on Friday when the park reopened, and they all had a fantastic time.

“We weren’t the only ones, there were plenty of other children who took advantage of the park reopening and congregated there with their families after school finished on Friday. It was great to see.”

Council will also be installing a plaque at the park recognising the contributions of the late Lester Williams.

Mr Williams was born at Esk in 1912 and spent his life working and volunteering in the region including as a cattle grazier, life member of the Toogoolawah Show Society, served 23 years on Esk Shire Council and more.

Somerset Regional Council received a request from a resident asking council to investigate suitability.

Somerset Mayor Graeme Lehmann said all councillors supported a plaque being installed at the park in honour of Mr Williams.
