QUEENSLAND teachers from across the state have been celebrated for their extraordinary work over the past decade.

As the finalists for this year’s prestigious Queensland College of Teachers TEACHX Awards are revealed, The Courier-Mail revisits some of the past winners.

FULL LIST: This year’s finalists for the Queensland College of Teachers TEACHX Awards

The awards, previously known as the QCT Excellence in Teaching Awards, have become an annual celebration where teachers from all across the state are acknowledged for their incredible contributions to their school communities and of course, to students.

Previous winners include teachers from Brisbane schools All Hallows’, St Aidan’s Anglican Girls’ School, Yeronga State High School and Kelvin Grove State College.

Teachers from the Gold Coast have also been regularly awarded, including at Pacific Pines Primary School and The Southport School.

And it’s not just those in the southeast which are recognised for their achievements, with award winners from all over the state including northern and western Queensland, Toowoomba and the Torres Strait Islands.

In 2019 teachers will also vie for the Merline Muldoon Award Excellent Innovation in Teaching Award, which has been introduced as a new category.

Five teachers from across the state have been named as finalists — Townsville State High School’s Kevin Butler, Frenchville State School’s Wendy Goldston, Nambour Special School’s Jennifer Irving, Marsden State High School’s Thomas Patterson and C&K Eimo Road’s Belinda Rule.

The winners of the awards will be announced on October 24, on the eve of Queensland’s World Teachers’ Day celebrations.
