The showbag pavilion at this year’s Ekka will be packed with dozens of new options for children and adults.
The new showbags for children include a Bertie Beetle Retro, Marvel’s Venom, The Wiggles 30th anniversary and Kids Kitchen.
Options for adults include the first ever eco conscious showbag, a Country Women’s Association showbag and a Game of Thrones showbag.
Cousins Peggy Mackenzie and Esther McKeering’s grandparents had their first date at the Ekka as teenagers.
Seven-year-old Peggy said her favourite parts about going to the Ekka is the tradition of picking out a showbag.
“The first showbag I got was at the Ekka when I was about three, we got a Peppa Pig one,” she said.
More than 360 types of showbags will be for sale at the 2021 Ekka, with the cheapest showbags the Bertie Beetle Blue bag and the Rainbow Freeze Showbag at $2 and the most expensive showbag the Lindt Box of Blocks bag at $110.
Ekka 2021: What to expect from Brisbane show during Covid pandemic
RNA CEO Brendan Christou said the showbags were one of the most popular parts of the Ekka for children.
“Having showbags back at the Ekka after the cancellation last year is fantastic to see again,” he said.
“They’ve been part of the show since very early shows nearly 150 years ago, one of the very first showbags was a bag of coal which wouldn’t excite too many kids these days.
“Last year there were some partnerships with shops and online where you could get showbags, so certainly not the same experience as in the 5,500 square meter showbag pavilion we have here, it will be great to have that atmosphere back.”
