Punters could have an extra reason to cheer trackside when the $1 million XXXX Doomben Cup takes centre stage this Saturday, with a cold new incentive on the line.

As The Star Stradbroke Season gallops into its second Group 1 feature, more than 4000 racegoers are expected to flock to Ascot’s Doomben Racecourse for one of Brisbane’s biggest days on the track.

And they could be shouting “cheers” instead of “come on!” if one of the headline horses brings it home.

A Brisbane Racing Club spokeswoman said all eyes will be on local hope ‘Antino’, the reigning Queensland Horse of the Year, as he takes on last years’ Australian Champion Racehorse ‘Pride of Jenni’ in the second of the season’s seven prestigious Group 1s.

“The matchup has captured the imagination and attention of racing fans,” she said.

“This is the first time since ‘Might And Power’ won the 1998 edition that the race has attracted a past or future Australian Champion Racehorse of the Year in Pride Of Jenni (2024)”.

And in a in a “special promotion,” Brisbane Racing Club says they will shout each punter one XXXX Gold* (or water) if either horse crosses the line first.

But the race is far from a two-horse event, if defending champion Bois D’Argent or proven Group 1 performers Kovalica, Lindermann and Fawkner Park have anything to say about it.

In total, twelve horses are on the start list with hopes to walk away with the $600,000 first place prize.

Gates open to the public at 10:30am.
