WORK has started on a roundabout on the corner of Tooth and Martin Sts in Point Vernon with $276,000 of Federal Government blackspot funding.

"Work is currently underway and will be finished by July, weather permitting," Fraser Coast Regional Council infrastructure and planning portfolio councillor Trevor McDonald said.

A council spokesman said between 1992 and 2013 there were 19 reported accidents at the intersection, some causing injury and requiring people to be taken to hospital.

To help counter this, line marking at the intersection has been improved and a give way warning painted on the Tooth St approaches to increase motorists' awareness of the intersection.
