A woman has been treated for “puncture wounds” to her upper leg after she was bitten by a dingo at Eli Creek.

QPWS rangers are closely monitoring the wongari (dingo) at Eli Creek and across the island after the incident at the day use area about 3pm.

Additional resources have been allocated to assist the ongoing compliance and education across the island.

“Rangers are continuing to investigate the incident and attempting to identify the responsible animal, which will assist in determining management options within the scope of the Dingo Conservation and Risk Management Strategy,” a spokesman from the Department of Environment and Science said.

“The woman received treatment to puncture wounds to her upper-leg after being bitten by a wongari at Eli Creek day use area around 3pm.

“Wongari are a natural and important part of the ecosystems and culture on K’gari. It is important to remember the wongari are wild animals and they are unpredictable.

“A woman has been treated for injuries after being been bitten by a dingo on K’gari/Fraser Island.

“The incident happened just before 5pm on Sunday.

“The woman, in her 20s, was treated at the scene and did not require hospitalisation.”

It was the latest in a series of dingo incidents on the island, including separate attacks on two children within days of each other earlier this month.
