Police are still searching for a driver who crashed into two parked cars and fled the scene in Hervey Bay.

Dramatic footage shows the car speeding along Torquay Road before colliding with the cars, one of which had a person inside who was later hospitalised, outside the Hervey Bay 24 Hour Gym.

The incident happened on Friday about 9.38pm.

CCTV footage shows the car crashing into two other cars before speeding off, leaving the two cars, a piece of the vehicle and, a number plate at the scene.

Paramedics were called to the scene at about 9.45pm and transferred the injured man to Hervey Bay Hospital in a stable condition.

Hervey Bay 24 Hr Gym owner Jace Palffy told the Chronicle he was told about the incident about 20 minutes after it happened by members of the gym.

Jace then sourced the gym’s CCTV footage and gave it to police, to assist in the investigation.

“This is a low act, it’s just not right,” Jace said.

“If (the driver) gets caught, his consequences are going to be far greater than if he had stopped.”

Reaching out on social media, the gym posted the CCTV footage on its Facebook page, where many commented, including the man who was taken to hospital.

“I am safe now at the hospital :(,” Thassakorn Poppy said at 00.38am on May 1, a few hours after the crash.

The Chronicle has been told the person who owned the first parked car narrowly missed being involved, as he walked into the gym only about five minutes before the crash.

Police still haven’t been able to identify the car or driver.

A piece of the car left at the scene, had a number plate attached which was registered to a different car.
