Two of Hervey Bay’s major events have been postponed as southeast Queensland enters a hard lockdown as of 4pm on Saturday.
The Blessing of the Fleet, set to be held on Saturday, and Sunday’s parade, both part of Hervey Bay’s Whale Festival, have both now been postponed.
The postponement also casts doubt on the dates for next weekend’s Paddle out for Whales and Seafood Festival.
It is expected the lockdown will last for three days.
The decision to lockdown comes after a 17-year-old girl – a student at Indooroopilly State High School – tested positive to coronavirus.
Both Indooroopilly State High School and nearby Ironside State School students are all in quarantine for 14 days.
Fraser Coast Tourism and Events will review the whale festival program and the timing of a rescheduled event on Monday and make a further announcement early next week.
This information will be going out on radio and social channels.
