Tragedy strikes twice in less than an hour in two separate road accidents.

Two Fraser Coast men have been killed in separate crashes on Monday.

In the first incident, a Scarness man was killed in a horror crash near Gympie.

The two-vehicle crash happened just before 6am when a car travelling northbound on the Bruce Highway at Kybong collided with a truck travelling in the opposite direction.

An 86-year-old Scarness man, the sole occupant of the car, died at the scene.

The driver of the truck, a 38-year-old man, was not seriously injured.

The Forensic Crash Unit is investigating and has appealed for anyone who might have dashcam footage to contact 131 444.

Not even an hour later, a crash at Southbrook, in the Toowoomba region, claimed the life of an 18-year-old Maryborough man.

Preliminary investigations indicate that about 6.45am, a truck was headed east on the Gore Highway when it collided with a ute heading in the opposite direction near Geitz Rd.

The driver of the ute died at the scene.

The driver of the truck, a 26-year-old New South Wales man, was taken to the Toowoomba Hospital with non-life-threatening injuries.

Investigations are continuing
