The driver of a truck escaped serious harm after a heavy vehicle fell off the back of his trailer and gouged a chunk out of a key Fraser Coast road.

He was travelling along Maryborough-Biggenden Rd at Oakhurst about 8.20am when the crash happened.

Police said the falling machinery did “significant damage” to the road, carving a crater more than 4m long in the asphalt.

A QAS spokeswoman said the man, aged in his 60s, suffered only minor injuries in the crash.

Police said traffic headed along the stretch can expect delays, which is now in the hands of Transport and Main Roads.
