Tourist suffers suspected spinal injury on Fraser Island

A TOURIST suffered a suspected spinal injury while swimming on Fraser Island.

A Swedish tourist has been airlifted by RACQ CareFlight Rescue after he suffered a suspected spinal injury while swimming in the ocean at Fraser Island this morning.

The 22-year-old man suffered a suspected spinal injury and numerous abrasions after he was thrown onto rocks by a rogue wave at Champagne Pools.

The Bundaberg RACQ CareFlight Rescue helicopter was tasked to the island at 11.30am.

Once on scene, the QAS Intensive Care Flight Paramedic was winched from CareFlight's helicopter at low level to assess and treat the injured man.

He was then transferred to the waiting helicopter at Orchid Beach and flown to Hervey Bay Hospital.

He traveled in a stable condition.
