Tourist airlifted from Fraser after falling down sand dune

A CANADIAN tourist has been airlifted to Hervey Bay Hospital this afternoon after falling down a steep sand dune at Lake Wabby on Fraser Island.

A CANADIAN tourist has been airlifted to Hervey Bay Hospital this afternoon after falling down a steep sand dune at Lake Wabby on Fraser Island.

The man walked about 40 minutes back up the beach, where he was met by the island's ambulance service.

He suffered muscular injuries and possible back injuries in the fall.

The AGL action rescue helicopter airlifted the 22-year-old to the mainland about 1:15pm.
