BACKPACKERS Manuel Lersch and Kristina Drotemmer were keen to explore attraction of Fraser Island while ringing in the New Year.

The pair and their group, from Switzerland and Belgium, were among those who have helped the Kingfisher Bay Group resorts see a promising 2016.

Kingfisher Bay Group general manager David Hay said visitor numbers had grown in the second half of 2015.

"The number of visitors to both Kingfisher Bay and Eurong Beach Resorts has continued to rise over the Christmas break. Our forward bookings for January and February are on track to see a healthy increase in visitors from this time last year."
