Tin Can Bay scooter crash leaves man, 80, in serious condition

An 80-year-old man has been flown to hospital after a serious scooter crash in Tin Can Bay. Here’s what we know.

An 80-year-old man is in a serious condition, after sustaining a significant leg injury in a scooter crash in Tin Can Bay on Saturday morning.

The crash occurred on the corner of Sterling Castle Rd and Gympie Rd at 8.35am, where it is believed the man was hit by a car.

A Queensland Police spokesman reported the man was riding a Honda NVS 50 moped.

The man was treated at the scene by paramedics and the LifeFlight helicopter has transported him to the Sunshine Coast University Hospital.

“It’s believed the man, who is aged in his 80s, was on his scooter at an intersection when he was hit,” a Life Flight spokesman said.

“The LifeFlight chopper pilot landed the aircraft at an oval near the scene of the crash, where the RACQ LifeFlight Rescue Critical Care Doctor and Queensland Ambulance Service Flight Paramedic met with local QAS paramedics to treat the patient for leg injuries.”

Police are investigating the cause of the incident.
