Thousands of people have been left without power in Hervey Bay, with Ergon crews carrying out fault finding to try to fix the problem.

A spokesman said about 7500 customers in Wondunna, Urangan and Kawungan had been left without power due to the unexpected outage.

He said the public should contact emergency services if they noticed any fallen powerlines.

The public should remember to stay away from any fallen power lines, which could be live, he said.

On social media, some reported hearing a loud “explosion” before the power went out.

The Ergon outage website said the power loss was “due to damage requiring emergency repairs”.
