Upgrades will be made to Teddington Weir Water Treatment Plant after the state government announced $2 million in funding.
The project will address water supply security, water loss mitigation and enhanced sewage treatment.
The water treatment plant is located on the banks of the Tinana Creek and provides clean drinking water to Maryborough.
It comes after funds were invested in the treatment plant by the Fraser Coast Regional Council over the past two years.
In March 2020, the council announced a $3.5 million upgrade, which included new pumps, reconfiguration of pipework, and replacement of switchboards and wiring.
“The work will ensure that the plant, which supplies water to Maryborough and surrounds, will deliver treated water even if there is a blackout,” Wide Bay Water and Waste Services director Mark Vanner said at the time.
The latest round of funding for the treatment plant was part of the Building Our Regions Funding for the council, Minister Water and Regional Development Glen Butcher said.
Maryborough MP Bruce Saunders said the funding would be a “great boost for the region”.
“It is imperative that maintenance works on the plant infrastructure be maintained to ensure the smooth running of the facility,” he said.
