WILL world athletics ever see another Usain Bolt?

Bolt is the fastest man on earth, and is in pursuit of a "triple triple" - three gold medals at three consecutive Olympic Games.

He looked shot at the halfway point in the men's 100m final but the man found a way to power past his rivals for a third consecutive gold medal.

His 200m semi-final performance was Bolt to a tee: it doesn't look like he is going too fast at the start, but he blitzes his rivals in the middle third and coasts to victory.

He will run for the 200m gold at 11.30am, but as one of the world's most marketable men is nearing the end of his career, we question whether he is truly one of a kind.

THE Melbourne Cup might stop the nation but Usain Bolt can stop the world.

Nothing can ever tarnish the Jamaican's legacy, and nobody can question Bolt's record, but another sprinter will come along to take the world's fastest man's mantle.

Rio surely marks the last Olympic Games campaign of two "once-in-a-generation" stars in Bolt and American superfish Michael Phelps.

They leave the Olympics at the top of their respective disciplines, where they belong, but the next superstars are already upon us.

Katie Ledecky is smashing records in the pool and can only get better, while gymnast Simone Biles was mesmerising on the way to four golds.

Canadian sprinter Andre de Grasse was alongside Bolt in the 200m, and South African Wayde van Niekirk's 400m record was another standout.

If anyone will accomplish the men's sprint triple-triple it is Bolt, but perhaps there is a future champion on the track.

THINK about it.

In the entire history of humanity we have never witnessed a man that can do what Usain Bolt does.

That's pretty impressive given running is something most of us can do, just not 100 metres in 9.58 seconds.

The fact that it has taken until 2016 to see an athlete like Usain Bolt push for a triple-triple means we're not going to see this again any time soon.

I would go so far as to say it will be decades before we see a runner who can stay ahead of the pack like what Bolt has done at the last three Olympics.

Usain Bolt is truly an athlete who will go down in the history books as one of the greatest of all time.

And I really don't think anyone on earth at this point can match him.
