LEAGUE: Work to restore Eskdale Park to its former glory will continue under new Rugby League Fraser Coast president Toni Worthington.
"I've been involved in 10 years with kids playing sport, I was president of one of the clubs,” Worthington said of her background in the sport.
"I was on the committee last year as registrar towards the end of the year, and when (former president Steve Einam) wanted to step down someone had to take the reins. Cathy Lethbridge and Steve are still trustees of the ground so we'll keep them involved.
"The previous committee has done a lot of work (at the ground) which has repaired some of the grandstands and the expectation is they'd like to build it bigger and better.”
A major project Worthington will progress is the ground's lighting. RLFC, Wallaroos and Maryborough Brothers use Eskdale Park as its home ground, but upgraded lights are needed if they are to improve the heritage ground.
"They're badly needed, especially if we have any night time games,” Worthington said. "After that, it will be bigger and better grandstands.”
Worthington and the newly-elected RLFC committee are working to secure a major sponsor for its rep teams.
"It would help buy equipment, some of the resources like training bags, and to get more training for all of the volunteers who help those teams,” Worthington said.
"Without an Intrust Super Cup team, we don't have those resources to pull from. We don't have the development they have for their young players.
"We're really working with Central Division to acquire more of that and get it covered at the grounds.”
Worthington said the improvement of player and specator behaviour would continue to be driven this season, with a view to make league enjoyable for every participant.
