Locals will have the chance to meet past rugby league legends while also watching elite players live in action at a game held in Maryborough later this month.
Wynnum’s Manly Seagulls will take on Papua New Guinea Hunters at Maryborough’s Eskdale Park on July 31 this year, where past league legends of the game will be attending.
An opening ceremony will start from 1.15pm, with the main game kicking off at 2.10pm.
Steve Renouf, Petero Civoniceva and Willie Tonga will be at the game, as well as current Queensland NRL Womens’ representative Tamika Upton – giving fans the chance to “mix and mingle” with the stars.
More than 50,000 people are expected to tune into the livestream.
Councillor Denis Chapman said Fraser Coast will be hosting a game of Premier State-wide rugby every year for the next three years.
“The Intrust Super Cup competition is a pathway to the NRL for elite rugby league players in Queensland, and it will be fantastic for local fans and players to see such high level games in their own backyard,” Cr Chapman said.
“The Deadly Choices program, which aims to empower Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander people to make healthy choices for themselves and their families, will also be promoted in the lead up to the game.”
Wynnum Manly Seagulls Chief Executive Officer Hanan Laban said Indigenous culture recognition would be strong on the day.
“We will be promoting the local Fraser Coast Rugby League throughout the week and promoting health awareness and recognising Indigenous culture with the support of Deadly Choices,” she said.
Ticket prices are;
- Adult, over 16 years, $10
- Pensioner, $5
- Children, up to 15 years, free
Tickets can be bought now, here, or at the main gate of the game on the day.
