AFTER publicly sending out the message to my daughter Aby that she was about to be given a basketball lesson on Saturday night in Maryborough I am today eating cold humble pie.

Asked to get a celebrity match happening for the big basketball charity night we had hoped to have the Fraser Coast Chronicle play off against the local council.

Unfortunately Kruger’s All-stars became the no-stars and that left us looking for another likely target.

Having already organised the team singlets we couldn’t back down, so when some foolish person suggested we turn it into a family showdown I agreed.

The match did go down to the wire, at least that’s how I saw it, and at the end of a torrid five minutes the girls pipped us 7-4.

The miracle was how we managed to score four points.

The best part of the encounter was that we were able to have some fun on a great night for basketball on the Fraser Coast.

So now fresh from our loss we’d like to put the challenge out to other businesses if they’d like to play a 20-minute game of social lunchtime basketball.

Our small group had plenty of fun and we thought this may just be a good way to get to know other businesses and their staff a little better.

If you’d like to put up a mixed team of five up against us just give Richard Harvey or me a call on 4120 1051.

We can assure you the standard will not be high, but the fun will be.

We plan to keep up the company challenges until we win a game. That means we could be playing for at least another two years.

On the real basketball the Hervey Bay club should be congratulated for overcoming all the difficulties and getting the action happening.

With the help of two former NBL stars, Scott McGregor and David Gurney, the Hurricanes defeated the Bulls.

The talk now is to put on a regular Larry Sengstock Charity Game inviting a number of celebrity players. Larry likes the idea and this paper is ready to back it.
