Seriously ill crewman winched off bulk carrier near Fraser Island | Video

Dramatic footage has captured the moments a rescue helicopter has helped extract a seriously ill crewman from a ship about 50km east of the Fraser Coast. Watch the video

The Bundaberg-based RACQ LifeFlight Rescue helicopter has performed a winch rescue of a seriously ill crewman from a bulk carrier, near the Fraser Coast.

A seriously ill crewman has been winched off a bulk carrier near Fraser Island (K’gari).

The RACQ LifeFlight Rescue helicopter crew was sent to the scene by the Australian Maritime Safety Authority about 11.30am Monday, and located the ship, about 48km east of the island.

Once the rescue helicopter was hovering over the vessel, the crew winched the rescue crew officer and the Queensland Ambulance Service flight paramedic down to the vessel.

The man, aged in his 30s, was treated for abdominal pain.

After the patient and chopper crew had been winched back on-board the rescue helicopter, the man was flown to Bundaberg Hospital in a stable condition.
