Three new businesses are bringing something special to the Fraser Coast that we bet will have your mouth-watering by the time you hear what they offer.

RILEY‘S PIZZA: Pizza-lovers heaven in Pialba

They have barely been open a few weeks, but already Fraser Coast’s hottest new pizza joint is drawing a crowd in Boat Harbour Dr, Pialba.

Riley’s Pizza is a hospitality first for Sean Summerville and Sandee Walker, who found themselves squeezed out of their intestate transport business when Covid restrictions hindered travel.

The store is named after the couple’s pizza-loving daughter, and its ethos is about keeping customers happy.

“The best way to look at things is from a customer’s point of view – when you are trying to build a business, you reverse engineer it from there,” Mr Summerville said.

And the top priority is to serve a mouth-watering product.

“We make good pizza,” he said.

“We make it the way we like it. To us it’s all about the base – we get the base right – it has to be firm and hold a lot of toppings – we’re not just selling flavoured bread.”

Add fresh, top-quality toppings, Mr Summerville said, and the recipe is a winner.

While the Riley Supreme seems to be the favourite already, there is plenty to suit all tastes – even for people who like pineapple on pizza.

Next year the store aims to offer a “pizza of the month” topped with as many local flavours as possible. And to top it off they are looking at adding a desert pizza.

Delivery will start early this year as will online ordering and the possibility of ordering through Food on the Run.

DAWG BOYS: Gourmet hotdogs, wings and beers

There’s a new “top dawg” of restaurants in town and it’s taking the Bay by storm with its delicious chef-prepared, Americana-inspired menu.

Local chef Jonty Randhwa brought the Brisbane-based food franchise to the Bay when he opened in Boat Harbour Dr, Pialba last month.

Inspired by his love of the outlet’s gourmet flavour and after years working in hospitality in the region, he felt compelled to give something back to the community.

And that something is a trendy outlet that serves hot dogs, burgers, fried chicken, and wings that can all be washed down with a beer.

“There is nothing like this in Hervey Bay – it’s one of a kind. You can walk in and get hot dogs, burgers, wraps, fried chicken all made in house by our chefs,” Mr Randhwa said.

“We make our own sauces – they don’t come from packets and there are no preservatives – and you can taste the difference.”

He said their side offerings were not to be sneezed at either, with signatures such as jalapeño poppers and mozzarella sticks the most popular.

“Everyone has been talking about it in the town – we have had lots of positive feedback,” he said.

“We really appreciate the support of the local community.”

Later this year the outlet is planning a breakfast menu to keep eggs Benedict fans happy.

GROOVY NOODLE: Trendy Asian takeout at Torquay

Hervey Bay brothers Emil and Byron Kelc have teamed up to deliver a unique Asian takeaway experience on the Esplanade.

Groovy Noodle, which the duo opened two month ago, delivers a mix of Malay, Thai, Chinese and Japanese dishes prepared in front of the customer.

The street-food inspired atmosphere coupled with a unique menu has been a drawcard, Emil said.

Emil learnt his skills working as a chef at Whale Bay Asian, on the Marina, before taking the plunge to put his own stamp on the cuisine.

“A lot of my dishes aren’t really offered anywhere else,” he said.

“We’ve had a lot of good reviews, onlookers come in because they can see me cooking from the street. It’s a nice attraction.”

Customers can choose to dine in, he said, with the overall atmosphere being casual.
