Investigations are under way after a 12-year-old boy was bitten by a dingo at K’Gari while holidaying at a popular campground at the tourist hotspot.

A Department of Environment spokesman said the boy was knee-boarding at Eurong when the animal emerged from bushland and circled him.

The boy yelled and moved his arms in an effort to move the animal on, but as he stepped back it lunged and bit him on the left knee.

His family did not seek medical help for the attack, which left the boy with scratching and bruising on the knee.

Rangers are investigating and working to identify the dingo involved.

The boys parents were about 10m away from the youth when he was bitten, the spokesman said, and they had been briefed by rangers earlier.

He urged visitors to the island to remain vigilant and keep children under constant supervision.

The attack comes less than a week after concerns were raised that children “running amok” on the island could lead to a fatality.

There have been several incidents involving the animals on the island in 2023.

In September a dingo was destroyed after being involved in a series of incidents including almost attacking a four-year-old boy, grabbed the tracksuit of a woman, jumped at the chest of a girl and attempted to bite another person.
