Practically perfect position open: New Mary needed in Poppins proud city

A position exists for a candidate who is practically perfect in every way.
This is after Carmel Murdoch, the woman who faithfully took on the character of Mary Poppins and many other Marys over the decades, retired.
The Fraser Coast Regional Council is seeking to fill the “unique” position.
The successful candidate will be a heritage enthusiast and lover of all things local in Maryborough.
They will be a gifted storyteller and willing to work with a “magic bag and talking umbrella”.
As the Mary for every occasion takes a well-earned break, the “extremely rare” role is up for grabs.
Fraser Coast Mayor George Seymour said applicants must have “a passion for Maryborough”.
“A unique opportunity has opened up for someone, male or female, to bring the stories of Maryborough to life … The stories are wide and varied from the early days of settlement and the characters which inhabited the port to the Inspector of Nuisances or Maryborough as the birthplace of Mary Poppins author PL Travers,” he said.
The council is seeking someone who:
- is outgoing, personable with a humorous disposition
- is flexible and available across seven days
- has tour guiding/theatrical performance experience
- has the ability to mobilise across tour areas including varying surfaces such as footpaths and lawns
- holds a working with children blue card
- has Responsible Service of Alcohol (RSA)
- has a weapons licence or has the ability to attain one within three months of being hired
- has a Queensland Class C drivers’ licence
