A teenage boy charged with murder after a fatal shed fire at Pacific Haven has had his case mentioned in Hervey Bay Children’s Court.

The now 18-year-old, who cannot be named because he was a child at the time of the alleged offences, was charged with arson and one count each of murder and burglary on June 24 this year.

It was the culmination of a long-term police investigation into the death of 50-year-old Damien Ramsay.

On Wednesday, defence lawyer Virginia Ukpabi represented the boy, who did not appear before the court for the brief mention.

The Chronicle was allowed inside the courtroom under the State Government’s new legislation which gives more transparency in Children’s Court matters.

Police Prosecutor Sergeant Kim Harwood said she was waiting on outstanding telecommunication reports from Telstra, Optus and Vodafone.

“All of the requests were sent in August,” she said.

The matter was adjourned to October 23 and the boy was remanded in custody.
