Urangan supermarket thieves leave empty-handed after smashing way in
Bungling intruders spent more time breaking into and damaging a Qld supermarket than they did inside, leaving empty handed and the owner with a senseless damage bill.
It took two young men all their strength to smash their way into a Urangan business, only to leave after 30 seconds empty-handed.
SPAR Express Urangan manager Thomas Leafe said about 3.43am on Wednesday, the thieves had used rocks to smash their way into the supermarket.
He said the two had attempted to gain entry before leaving for a short time then returned to “finish the job”.
The incident was captured on CCTV footage.
After getting into the business, the two had attempted to take cigarettes, but the cabinets were locked, Mr Leafe said.
They had looked in the cash registers, but no cash was left on the premises, so that proved fruitless as well, he said.
One of the offenders picked up a box of chocolates but threw it away before leaving the store.
The owner said it had taken the two 30 seconds to look around and leave without stealing anything.
“We are trying to see the funny side of it,” he said.
Like many other business owners, the frustration around the costs involved and the inconvenience.
