Two Urangan teens have been charged with smashing up a popular Hervey Bay restaurant earlier this week.
The windows of a popular Hervey Bay restaurant were shattered in an early morning break-in on Wednesday.
The teenagers, aged 17 and 15, are charged with gaining entry to the Cafe Balaena on Buccaneer Drive by smashing the glass in the sliding doors about 4.50am.
The alleged suspects were filmed on CCTV as they fled the scene on bikes a short time later.
Police conducted a search warrant at a Urangan address and recovered a number of stolen items which they allege were stolen from the business.
On its Facebook page, Cafe Balaena called the incident “a senseless act of vandalism, one that many local restaurants and shop owners are far too experienced with”.
It is the latest in a number of break-ins and acts of vandalism.
At a press conference in November, Aquavue Restaurant owner Jaiden Christie said residents were “sick of break-ins”.
“We have had enough, and we need something done about it,” Mr Christie said.
“People should be able to walk down our beautiful Esplanade and not have to fear their safety.”
A Queensland Police spokesman said authorities were appealing to anyone who may have seen anything suspicious in the area around the time of the incident or may have any relevant dashcam/CCTV footage.
The restaurant was closed for breakfast service in the morning but was able to operate its evening service.
The 15-year-old boy will be dealt with under a restorative justice process while the 17-year-old boy was charged with enter premises and commit indictable offence by break.
He is scheduled to appear before the Hervey Bay Children’s Court later this month.
