A Toogoom man has been sentenced after driving about 200km while on meth.

Peter Scott Martin, 44, pleaded guilty to two counts of driving with a drug present in saliva and one count of driving while under a 24-hour ban.

The court was told on February 17, while under the influence of methamphetamines and cannabis, Martin drove 185km from his Toogoom property to Noosaville to visit a friend.

At 11.12pm his Toyota Fortuner was pulled over by police and when questioned about his substance use he admitted to having consumed methamphetamines five hours before and cannabis the day prior to his journey.

Subsequently testing positive for the substances, he was given a 24-hour ban from driving but chose to ignore it and set off for Toogoom the day after.

At 8.48am on the Bruce Hwy in Cooroy he was pulled over once again and arrested.

Self-represented, he expressed his regret over his actions on the drug-fuelled weekend.

“It was a most stupid mistake,” he said.

The court heard he was working as a labourer earning $750-800 per week.

Magistrate Trinity McGarvie suspended his licence for a year and fined him $1800.

Convictions were recorded.
