Police continue to hunt the thieves who stole a Holden Commodore from its 63-year-old owner at Gundiah on Tuesday night and then ran him over, leaving him with multiple injuries.
Mark Crossley was released from hospital on Thursday and said his car had been for sale when a man and woman came to his rural property between Gympie and Maryborough to view the Commodore and take it for a test drive.
Mr Crossley drove it around the block for them and returned to his property when he said the man jumped in the car and drove off.
Shocked, Mr Crossley stood in front of the Ford Falcon ute the two had arrived in, which the woman was driving.
He said the woman “drove over him” dragging him for about 50m before he fell off.
In a social media post Mr Crossley said he had suffered “cracked ribs and abrasions”.
“I’m not over it – I haven’t eaten, and I haven’t slept.”
“Thank you to all those who have taken the time to help locate the SCUMBAGS that ran me over and stole my 2015 VF SS Commy on Monday evening (sic).”
He said the stolen car had since been seen at Tinana, Hervey Bay, and on the Southside at Gympie. On the last sighting the plates had been removed.
Mr Crossley hopes his car will be returned safely.
His daughter Jackie Roberts first shared the shocking story on the Maryborough Community and Tiaro Community Facebook pages and said her father and his friend were still “quite shocked”.
A police spokeswoman said officers were still investigating.
“Around 7.30pm (on Tuesday, December 17), a male attended the Netherby Road residence in a Ford Falcon before stealing the Holden Commodore,” the spokeswoman said.
“The owner of the Holden was hit during the incident and sustained non-life-threatening injuries.
“Investigations remain ongoing and anyone with relevant CCTV or dashcam footage is urged to contact police.”
Ms Roberts said the car, which had a licence plate reading 073 DZ9, had been locked and was parked at a “big property” when it was stolen.
