Search for driver after car found submerged in lake in Hervey Bay

Police have revealed officers tried to stop a Ford Focus multiple times before it ended up in a Qld lake. It comes after divers failed to find any sign of the driver.

Police divers searching a lake in Pialba after a vehicle was submerged overnight.

Police are still searching for a driver after a car, which had been involved in a chase that evening, was found submerged in a lake at Hervey Bay on Tuesday night.

It comes after police divers combed the lake behind the building which houses Beacon Lighting and the Hervey Bay Cinema but found no signs of the woman.

New details from the Queensland Police Service on Thursday revealed officers attempted to intercept a woman driving a blue Ford Focus multiple times between 7pm and 11.25pm in Urraween on February 4.

About 11.30pm, police received reports of the same car being driven into a lake near O’Rourke Street, Pialba.

On Wednesday, police divers arrived at the scene to search the lake.

“Police have recovered the car, but the driver remains outstanding,” the QPS spokeswoman said.

Anyone with information that may assist the investigation is urged to contact police.

Investigations are ongoing.
