Point Vernon child rapist sentenced in Brisbane District Court

A Point Vernon man will spend at least five years behind bars for the rape of a child after being sentenced in Brisbane District Court

A Point Veron man will spend at least 5 years in prison for the sexual abuse of a child under his care.

A Point Vernon man who repeatedly abused a child under his care has been sentenced in Brisbane.

The man who cannot be named for legal reasons was found guilty on Wednesday morning, October 18, 2023, of five charges, including one count of maintaining an unlawful relationship with a child, three counts of rape and one count of indecent treatment of a child under 12 years as a carer.

All were DV offences and took place in Hervey Bay between January 2020 and November 2021.

He was found not guilty of two additional counts of rape.

The Point Vernon man was sentenced in Brisbane District Court on October 6

After the jury's verdict the man was remanded in custody with the sentencing to be carried out in Brisbane District Court on October 27.

There Judge William Everson sentenced the man to five and a half years imprisonment with nine days of pre-sentence custody declared.

No parole date was set with convictions recorded.
