A homeless man who created a disturbance near a popular Fraser Coast park has been fined after failing to face court.
Neil Charles Harrild failed to appear before Maryborough Magistrates Court on Monday and his matter, one count of public nuisance, was dealt with ex parte.
Police prosecutor Balam Selvadurai said on the day in question Harrild was heard in Queens Park yelling and swearing incoherently.
Sergeant Selvadurai said it was not “meant for anybody or aimed at anyone”, it was just a “tirade of abuse and swearing”.
Magistrate John Milburn said he was aware the issue of public nuisance in Maryborough was one of concern, but said he would deal with the matter as charged.
His comments came after member for Maryborough John Barounis met with business owners to discuss the ongoing concerns surrounding anti-social behaviour in the CBD.
Sgt Selvadurai said Harrild was homeless and struggled with mental health issues.
He said on that day Harrild may not have been medicated.
Mr Milburn said in regard to the matter of mental health it was not his fault, but Harrild did need to be responsible as far as he could for his medication.
Harrild was fined $350 for the offence and a conviction was recorded.
