A man sitting in a Jeep Patriot was allegedly assaulted by two men wearing hoods in Urangan on Sunday night as they allegedly attempted to steal his vehicle.
Police said the man was sitting in his car in a parking bay on Elizabeth Street at the Urangan Esplanade about 10pm when he was approached from behind by two men.
One threatened him with a knife while the other entered the passenger side of the car.
The driver was forced out of the car while the two males tried to start the engine.
They were unsuccessful and fled the scene when passers-by stopped to help the driver.
Police are appealing for anyone who may have seen a grey Jeep Patriot wagon in the area at the time, or who may have relevant dash camera footage, to come forward.
