Man, 19, charged over alleged stabbing at Bill Fraser Park, Torquay, Hervey Bay

Police have charged a 19-year-old over an alleged stabbing at a park on a popular Queensland tourist strip. DETAILS.

A 19-year-old will front court charged over an alleged stabbing at a Hervey Bay park.

It comes after he allegedly fled police before running at an officer.

Police from the Hervey Bay station and Maryborough CIB had been investigating since an altercation allegedly occurred between three people about 12.30am on May 26 at Bill Fraser Park, Torquay.

A 36-year-old Urraween man sustained a stab wound to the abdomen and a 20-year-old, also from Urraween, sustained facial injuries as a result.

The third man left the scene and police were notified later that morning and commenced an investigation.

On Saturday, June 29, police revealed they had found the man along O’Connell Parade in Urraween on June 22.

Police allege the man “attempted to leave the scene on foot before allegedly running at a police officer” and was arrested.

He has been charged with one count each of wounding in a public place, assault occasioning bodily harm, assault police officer and obstruct police officer as well as seven counts of trespass.

He was remanded in custody to reappear in the Hervey Bay Magistrates Court on Monday, July 1.
