He told the officer he would go and pay for it, but he didn’t.

On April 12, 2024, the officer had contacted Rodgers again and requested he pay for fuel, but when the officer later contacted the business, he found the payment still hadn’t been made.

The court heard Rodgers was a disability support worker and the father of three children who were dependent on him.

He did not have a criminal history of dishonesty offences and did not recall the offending, which was “out of character”, the court heard.

Rodgers had tried to go back to pay, but the clerk at the counter did not understand when he tried to explain the situation, the court was told.

He was remorseful, the court heard.

Magistrate Trinity McGarvie fined Rodgers $450 and ordered him to pay restitution in the amount of $94.14.

No conviction was recorded.
