After an argument at a local pub “quickly escalated ” into a fight, a 19-year-old Hervey Bay man’s offending continued when he arrived at hospital.

Jaxon Benjamin Woods represented himself in Hervey Bay Magistrates Court on Thursday, pleading guilty to behaving in a disorderly manner in a premises to which a permit/licence relates, committing public nuisance and breaching of bail condition.

On June 18, 2022, Hervey Bay police were called to the Beach House Hotel at 12.30am in relation to a disturbance, the court heard.

Police prosecutor Sergeant Kim Harwood said when police arrived, they saw Woods being restrained on the ground by security.

He was then arrested by police, the court heard.

When speaking with security, police were told Woods was asked to leave the tavern due to his disorderly behaviour.

Sergeant Hardwood told the court when Woods was leaving the pub he was arguing with another person, which “quickly escalated into a fight”.

When police reviewed the CCTV footage of the incident, Woods could be seen throwing punches and kicking another person as they lay on the ground.

The court heard Woods was also in breach of a bail condition.

After the fight, Woods was taken to Hervey Bay Hospital to be assessed by medical staff when he became argumentative and uncooperative, the court heard.

Sergeant Harwood said Woods then began to yell “‘You’re a f***** C***’” and was warned his behaviour was inappropriate for a hospital.

“He was advised there were both elderly patients and small children in earshot,” Sergeant Harwood said.

Despite being warned multiple times to stop his behaviour, Woods continued to yell and swear, the court heard.

Woods told the court he was trying to call his mum at the hospital, but staff would let him.

“I was just getting treated unfairly,” he said.

The court heard Woods had previously worked in retail at BWS.

Magistrate Trinity McGarvie told Woods people who were in hospitals, like doctors, nurses and patients “don’t deserve” to be exposed to that type of behaviour.

Woods was fined $900 for the three offences.

A conviction was recorded.
