A mother who pawned a stolen PlayStation and games for a friend has been fined after appearing in court on fraud charges.

Jade Goldsworthy, 43, pleaded guilty to receiving tainted property and to fraud when she faced Hervey Bay Magistrates Court this week.

Police prosecutor Sonia Edwards said a man’s home was broken into on April, 18, 2023, and a PlayStation 4 console and several games stolen. A serial number was provided to police.

The court heard that on April 18, Goldsworthy pawned the games at Cash Converters for $50, using a New South Wales licence.

On April 20, she pawned the PlayStation for $120 at Pennywise in Hervey Bay.

When she later spoke to police, Goldsworthy said she had picked up a female associate from a location close to the burglary and gone to Cash Converters with the games.

She then went to Pennywise two days later with the PlayStation.

The items had since been returned to the victim, Sergeant Edwards said.

The court heard Goldsworthy was a single mother of four children, one of whom had special needs.

She received a carer’s allowance and single parent allowance from Centrelink.

When Goldsworthy’s friend offered her the PlayStation and games, she felt it was “too good to be true,” the court was told.

When she pawned the items, all she got was a packet of cigarettes; with the rest of the money going to her friend.

Goldsworthy was fined $500 and she ordered to pay $170 restitution.
