A P-plater who was busted with cocaine and cannabis in his system was later involved in a crash when he was drink driving, a court has heard.

Jackson Dennis Bollinger, 22, pleaded guilty to drink and drug driving when he faced Maryborough Magistrates Court on Tuesday.

Sergeant Rob Booth said on August 18, 2023, police were doing patrols on Gayndah Rd in Maryborough West and stopped Bollinger for a roadside drug test.

He made admissions to recent drug use, Mr Booth said.

Cocaine and cannabis were detected in Bollinger’s system.

In a separate incident on September 28, 2023, police attended Queen St in Maryborough in relation to a crash.

The court heard police saw a Mazda which appeared to have crashed into two parked vehicles on the roadside.

The officers spoke to Bollinger at the scene, who admitted to consuming alcohol.

He was taken to hospital to be treated for injuries and blood was taken, which returned a positive result for alcohol.

Defence lawyer Michael Riedel said Bollinger was a concreter and he lived at home with his mother at Bauple.

Bollinger had a “significant debt” as a result of the motor vehicle crash, with the damage amounting to about $26,000, Mr Riedel said.

“That’s something he’s going to have to pay,” he said.

“He’s learnt a lesson from this your honour.”

Mr Riedel said Bollinger was going to have to look at leaving Bauple to continue his employment, which upset him greatly because of the impact it would have on his mother.

He said sometime prior to the drug driving incident, Bollinger had been at a party and while he would not normally consume that substance, there was “peer pressure involved” and he succumbed to it.

Magistrate John Milburn said he understood Bollinger was facing “practical, real difficulties” in having to relocate, which would also impact on his mother.

Bollinger was fined $1250 and was disqualified for three months for the drug driving charge and six months for the drink driving charge.
