A Pialba woman who chillingly told her victim to “not sleep alone” after robbing him was sentenced to three years jail on Thursday.

Jacinta Marie Skarratt, 34, pleaded guilty to armed robbery and entering a dwelling while armed when she fronted Hervey Bay District Court.

The court heard that on June 3, 2023, Skarratt broke into the victim’s house after he had rejected her request to stay there, instead paying for her to stay at a nearby hotel for two nights.

Confronting Skarratt as she rummaged through his belongings while carrying a five-inch knife he shouted, “get out of my house” to which she replied, “give me the money or I will f------ kill you”.

As she fled the scene with the victim’s phone and wallet, he said “you know you are going to jail for this” she chillingly replied, “do not sleep alone”.

Police arrived shortly after and were able to track Skarratt down.

She would serve 155 days in custody before her sentencing.

The Crown Prosecutor said Skarratt’s “violent offending on June 3 was not out of character for her,” noting her criminal history in Victoria, New South Wales and Queensland.

Judge Nicholas Andreatidis invited Skarratt to address the courtroom.

She directed her attention at the victim who was present in court.

“I am sorry for what I have done, me and my family have put you through a lot,” she said.

“It is only since getting to custody I have been able to get my head clear and realise what I did.”

Judge Andreatidis said to Skarratt:

“I want to give you the benefit of the doubt, I do, but how am I to know you mean it?

“Who you are is horrible, you routinely commit violent offences.

“You have no relationship with your kids and they have no clue who you are, except maybe a criminal.”

Skarratt was sentenced to three years jail with a parole release date of November 30, 2024.

Convictions were recorded.
